I pray on Christmas
In our home, on November 1st, we can “officially” bring out all the Christmas movies, books and music. One month is simply not enough time for us to enjoy all these holiday pleasures. To my delight, my husband always seems to give me some new holiday music. I love to have it with me all the time as I drive the kids to and from their activities. This year, he gave me Harry Connick, Jr.’s “When My Heart Finds Christmas” (1993). Although many of the songs are recognizable Christmas classics, there was one that spoke to me from the very first playing. It is called “I Pray on Christmas”.
Look at the lyrics…………….
“I Pray on Christmas”
I pray on Christmas
That the Lord will see me through
I pray on Christmas
He’ll show me what to do
*
I pray on Christmas
He’ll help me understand
And I pray on Christmas
He’ll take me by the hand
*
I pray on Christmas
That the sick will soon be strong
I pray on Christmas
The Lord will hear my song
*
I pray on Christmas
That God will lead the way
And I pray on Christmas
He’ll get get me through the day
*
I pray on Christmas
All our problems gonna be worked out
I pray on Christmas
God’ll show us what love’s about
*
I pray on Christmas
To do your will each day
And I pray on Christmas
That I’ll be with you in heaven some day
*
I pray on Christmas
That God will lead the way
And I pray I really pray on Christmas
He’ll get me through another day
He’ll get me through another day.
*
Aren’t those words so beautiful, so true? Sometimes, often times, we just need God’s help to get through the day. Even on Christmas.
“In our praying we draw on our memories, on our past experiences, on our present desires. We only learn to draw on the grace of God by pureness, by knowledge and by long-suffering.” by Oswald Chambers
We can pray to God anywhere, about anything. Even on Christmas. Whatever fills your heart with joy, you can share that with God in prayer and praise. Whatever fills your heart with concern, you can share with God in prayer and praise.
John R. Rice is quoted as saying, “The Bible doesn’t say that we should preach all the time, but it does say we should pray all the time.”
“Pray continually.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 [+/-]
Pray today. Pray on Christmas. Pray after the decorations have been put away. Pray on the new year. There are no requirements or training. Prayer is not limited to a select few. It doesn’t matter your words. Whether few or many. You don’t need to be eloquent or planned or perfect. Deep sigh, maybe that is the best reminder of all. We don’t have to be perfect to come to God.
Pray on Christmas. I am praying for you.
By God’s grace, Kris
